Our Commitment to Privacy

The Bermuda National Trust collects and retains personal information from members, volunteers, tenants, donors and prospective donors. This information is used for maintaining relationships that are important for our charitable work and for supporting our fundraising efforts. We are committed to ensuring your data is handled responsibly and transparently.

BNT adheres strictly to the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) in the handling of personal information:

  • We will only collect personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason to do so under applicable law, such as with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services, to enter into or fulfill our contractual obligations, to protect your rights, or to fulfill our legitimate business interests. We will only use personal information in accordance with the original purpose for which we collected it.
  • We will only handle people’s information in ways they would reasonably expect, or we can explain why any unexpected processing is justified. We will consider how the processing of information may affect the individuals concerned and can justify any adverse impact.
  • We may request some sensitive information e.g. on race, sex and nationality on a voluntary basis to monitor BNT’s performance against diversity and inclusion goals. This data will only be used anonymously for statistical purposes.

 

Personal Rights

All those for whom we hold personal information have the right to:

  • Access their personal information
  • Understand how their information is used
  • Request corrections or edits of their personal information
  • Request that their personal information be deleted/destroyed
